Earlier this summer, Hawaii Gov. David Ige, by refraining from excersizing his veto rights, enabled a law that decriminalized small amounts of marijuana in the state of Hawaii.

What was once punishable by jail time is now only a $130 fine.

The governor has been reported to be in communication with other states that have legalized recreational marijuana, and has expressed interest in exploring it further, albeit very cautiously to avoid some of the challenges those states have endured.
